We have been so busy with the building of the Africa Shaman Retreat that it seems like an age since we last put a newsletter out, sincere apologies to our much appreciated subscribers…
We hope that 2013 is inspiring you and bringing wisdoms to you…
The building of the retreat is
quite a journey and we have been blessed with many miraculous learning’s and a deepening of connection to the land, people and mountain’s there.
In December last year we visited the sacred site of ‘main caves’ at Giants Castle. This has been a sacred site for a long time with cave paintings done by the San people. There are two large caves; one a dwelling cave and the other a cave used by the Shamans for ritual.
We were guided that we should go
to these caves near to our retreat on December the 21st. They have a deeply magnetic energy to them and resonate with ancestral wisdoms from many peoples and realities. We were told that the site is important to the present time as it holds wisdoms that can benefit all of humanity and that people who come and visit us at the retreat should be taken to that site.
The cave paintings show shamans in full ritual and the beings which are connected with through the ceremony. No one has a definitive interpretation and in a way this is not necessary as the power of the images speak for themselves.
It is an amazing walk to get there, through a valley with huge boulders and forest that is wet with fertile energy and abundant life force, then a small climb to the caves themselves.
We certainly look forward to sharing the journey with those that come to
One of the most important structures of the retreat is near completion; this is the Makhosini or ‘ancestors space’, this is the heart of what we will do at the retreat and where most ceremony will be held. To watch it emerge literally from the ground up has been a picture of love and abundance. Makhosi Ngcobo from Africa Shaman Experience has with his own hands been building the wattle skeleton and creating the round form which will welcome so many.
Careful attention has been paid to the surroundings, rocks and a gentle slope leads away from the main entrance…
Pictures will soon be posted and shared in coming News Letters…
We have had many adventures already with the road to the retreat which at present is only accessible with an off road vehicle. Heavy rains have blocked our access a number of times as the river we cross rises and falls.
Mother Nature is very much a dictating and co-creative part of this building process. Most of the time we are in awe of how intimately we are connected to her and her abundant gifts of wattle, mud, grass and water, all of which if we did not have, we could not build.
We are listening carefully to the knowledge
about the land which the Amahlubi people possess, stories of powerful energetic places, homes of certain land spirits, and the experiences the people themselves have had with them. We wish to honor such heart felt and sincere wisdoms…
We are in gratitude…
